BE - I too this photo at an outdoor book market in Paris. Through 2020, many have learned about being rather than doing as we've been in and out of quarantine, shutdowns, and lockdowns. Exploring and adventure doesn't always mean traveling somewhere, join me as I blog and explore!
Margit Island is a respite in the midst of a busy city. I went to explore the island with 2 young ladies from our English camp yesterday. We spent time climbing trees, visiting a small zoo (laughing at funny animals), finding a geocache, and talking about life. The girls mentioned a very large tree on the island and it became our mission to find it! After my failed google attempt, they asked a few people for directions and we stumbled upon one of the most beautiful tress I have ever seen. Majestic is too small a word to describe this tree. I could not begin to adequately photograph it here is a failed attempt to show parts of this ancient tree. You can see the branches were as large as trees themselves.
As I realized this was a Sycamore tree, my mind rushed to Luke 19, where we read of Zacchaeus (ok, sing the song now). A short guy trying to see Jesus, makes a humble effort to climb a tree which lead to a transforming relationship. This cheater of a tax collector, linked eyes with Jesus from a branch, and immediately found himself hosting Jesus. In response to Jesus entering his home, he gave half his possessions away, and reconciled with those he cheated. THIS IS RADICAL CHANGE! Gospel change. I can’t help but wonder if every time Zaccheaus saw that tree, he remembered how Jesus changed his life.
That’s where my mind drifted yesterday…
Have you experienced a story from the Bible coming to life recently? What was it? If not, keep your eyes opened…
Hi Lauren, This beautiful tree is on an island that I was named after “Margit”.
