BE - I too this photo at an outdoor book market in Paris. Through 2020, many have learned about being rather than doing as we've been in and out of quarantine, shutdowns, and lockdowns.  Exploring and adventure doesn't always mean traveling somewhere, join me as I blog and explore!

Life is fun when the focus isn’t so clearly on ourselves.

This picture says so much, while I’m front and center, the camera is not focused on me, it’s focused on the girls I have spent the past few years pouring into (and being encouraged by).  You see, even though I’m present, and the biggest one in this image, it’s not about me, it’s about those I’m called to love.

I love Jesus, I love people, and I want to help people love Jesus. -D.L. Moody

Sunday evening, 80 students, a handful of leaders and I returned from 48 hours at Lake Champion in Glen Spey, New York. While there’s adventure in Ropes Courses, Screamer Swings, and Ziplines, the late nights of laughter and raw hearted moments crying out for a relationship with God no matter the cost is what it’s all about. I wouldn’t trade these times for anything I’ve had to sacrifice to serve these students. This position requires choosing to walk a narrow path in a very visible role, yet knowing there is accountability and help when needed is the encouragement to press on.  (see what i did with that picture!?)

Glow: be a light, be transformed, be attractive to the community around you.

It’s been such a joy to wrestle through the deep questions of life, and ask “how does God want me to respond to this?”  with the countless students I’ve invested in for the past 6 years.

Serving in student ministries has played a formative role in my life. I will jokingly say it keeps me young and helps me live out my inner Peter Pan, but the reality is, it has grown me up more than it has kept me youthful.  At the core, it has prepared me for the next step in my journey.  Simply living in the joy of putting the focus on someone other than yourself.

I recognize that student ministries isn’t for everyone, but would you prayerfully consider being a volunteer in your local community?  It could change your life too (in a really fun way!).
